Philip Reinders is toegevoegd als nieuwe samenwerkende onderzoeker aan Werkgroep Oorlogsdoden. Hij doet al zo’n 45 jaar onderzoek naar de verschillende aspecten van de Slag om Arnhem, September 1944, en heeft daarover een aantal publicaties geschreven.
Hij doet ook onderzoek naar vermisten soldaten, in eerste instantie die tijdens of na de slag om Arnhem zijn vermist, maar ook andere militairen die in de periode 1940-1945 in of boven Nederland zijn omgekomen, of die zijn aangespoeld aan de Nederlandse kust. Tevens doet hij onderzoek naar vermiste Nederlandse oorlogsslachtoffers in Nederland.
Tot nu toe heeft Reinders in 3 gevallen een identificatie voorgedragen waarin het mogelijk was om de desbetreffende onbekende soldaat een naam te geven.
Het betreft Lance Corporal William Loney, 9th Platoon, C Company, 2nd Parachute Battalion, welke begraven ligt op de Arnhem-Oosterbeek Begraafplaats graf 20.B.7, omgekomen op 17 September 1944. Daarnaast Lieutenant John Gordon Kavanagh, 1st Battalion Queens Own Rifle Regiment of Canada, welke begraven ligt op de Algemene Begraafplaats, Steenderen graf 1, omgekomen op 5 April 1945.
De meeste recente identificatie betreft Flying Officer Philip Anthony Neville Cox, 501 Squadron, Royal Air Force, welke begraven ligt op de Engelse Begraafplaats Bergen op Zoom, graf 14.C.12. Op 4 juni jl. werd een grafmonument met zijn naam op zijn graf onthuld tijdens een ceremonie.

My name is Donna Wood. I am the daughter of Stephanie Harper the widow of Private George Alexander Jones Service # B/147040 buried in Holten Canadian War Cemetery. I want to thank you for the work you did in researching his background. My mother did move to the states and married my father. She never forgot George, but it was painful for her. She checked many times over the years on his grave. She passed in 2005. I made a promise to her to visit his grave. I will be flying from Dallas/Ft. Worth into Amsterdam August 5th, 2026. I plan to visit the cemetery.
I have a box of his belongings which I plan to record, and I will send to you the list if you’re interested. I can bring with me. I plan to donate some to the museums in Toronto and Holden. Some letters are personal, and I will place them with my mother’s ashes.
I understand families in the Netherland were at one time displaying the soldier’s pictures and tending/visiting the graves. If you know who the family was for George, I would love to have that information and make contact while there.
Again, I can’t say enough to see his page updated. I have since sent two pictures to one of the Highlanders Geordie and he posted one to the top of the page. It was my mother’s favorite of him. I have the cap he is wearing. The other is the City of Toronto Roll of Honour given to my mother.
